August 2004

Reports are coming in from the members of the team that visited Washington last week. Several of the participants were injured but survived. Travis and James were both inhibited by knee injuries. Brett Roper was uninhibited by the alcohol he had consumed. Adam Young was the filmer on the trip and returned with approximately three minutes of bails and a full tape of Blair Witch-esque campground footage. Various people have reported that the burliest move at Orcas was Roper backside smithgrinding over the deathbox with no pads. A local kid remarked that he’s seen travelling pros attempt that 30 to 40 times before making it. The new Milton, Wa., skatepark also received exceptionally high marks from visitors.

There were lots of cameras taken along on this trip, so hopefully I’ll have some photographs submitted to post on the site soon. For now, you can reflect upon this snapshot I took during my trip to Orcas last year.

Skater of the year videoThrasher magazine has released a video compendium honoring the Skaters of the Year chosen over the past 13 years. Starting with Tony Hawk, it works its way through the years to last year’s recipient of the award, Tony Trujillo. Each skater is given a vignette comprised of archival footage, interviews with contemporaries, and what appears to be some new footage.

A group of more than 12 skaters from Austin and San Antonio have headed out the Northwest on a roadtrip. Carter Dennis has just wrapped up a trip there and has posted great photos on his site. His trip overlapped with some of the others’ visit and they can be seen in the pics. I sent my video camera with Adam, and hope to see some footage come back.

Cary Jackson is one of the participants in this roadtrip. This is back-to-back with his visit to the Carbondale Run. I’m really looking forward to his photos from that event.

In order to improve the flexibility of this website and conquer some longtime annoyances, I’m currently in the process of installing a new publishing system. Hopefully all the archived articles from the previous system will be available. For the time being, you may access the archived content via this link.
