On my way down to Mabel Davis this afternoon, I stopped by Stubbs to check out Austin’s Riverboat Gamblers opening up for X and Rollins Band. Sounded like a clamactic end of a tour for these real-deal skaters. As I walked back to my motorcycle, I picked up a flyer that contained some pretty startling information about Henry Rollins’ merchandising difficulties. I’ve scanned it and posted it as a PDF download for ASN readers to interpret as they wish. In addition to these flyers, there was an Army recruiting banner hanging on the fence next to the gate.

After the Mabel Davis session, I came across Zach Martin at Barton Springs. Sounds like he’s moved back and Austin will suffer his shredding for at least the next year.

The new Skateboard Mag dropped into my mailbox yesterday. They enclosed the Creature DVD I reviewed last month. Bastrop’s Grinder Ledge pool takes some skin off JT Aultz on the subscription page and then there’s a photo of London kickflipping the big four at Mabel Davis on page 46. Dave Swift typed up a memorial to Jeff Phillips crediting him with the first photographed caveman slide. The text on page 30 finishes with, "one of the greatest skateboarders who ever lived." That’s probably why the Riverboat Gamblers have a photo of Jeff Phillips on the cover of their CD.
