Henry Rollins couldn’t bring his lemonade into Stubbs

On my way down to Mabel Davis this afternoon, I stopped by Stubbs to check out Austin’s Riverboat Gamblers opening up for X and Rollins Band. Sounded like a clamactic end of a tour for these real-deal skaters. As I walked back to my motorcycle, I picked up a flyer that contained some pretty startling information about Henry Rollins’ merchandising difficulties. I’ve scanned it and posted it as a PDF download for ASN readers to interpret as they wish. In addition to these flyers, there was an Army recruiting banner hanging on the fence next to the gate.
After the Mabel Davis session, I came across Zach Martin at Barton Springs. Sounds like he’s moved back and Austin will suffer his shredding for at least the next year.
The new Skateboard Mag dropped into my mailbox yesterday. They enclosed the Creature DVD I reviewed last month. Bastrop’s Grinder Ledge pool takes some skin off JT Aultz on the subscription page and then there’s a photo of London kickflipping the big four at Mabel Davis on page 46. Dave Swift typed up a memorial to Jeff Phillips crediting him with the first photographed caveman slide. The text on page 30 finishes with, "one of the greatest skateboarders who ever lived." That’s probably why the Riverboat Gamblers have a photo of Jeff Phillips on the cover of their CD.

Happy Birthday, James Juneau. 33rd to be celebrated at Emo’s tonight– Don Caballero!

Jeff P was the best ever, and he’d actually skate WITH you. Totally commanded any terrain you put him on. But I’m preaching to the choir here — sorry — the picture just got me going.

Insert “Hank’s Hard ____” joke here.
Sounds like Rollins needs some cash.

What a kook – Henry Rollins. We all need to make a living though but Hot Topic, Bartles’ and Lames? What a fucking joke – Henry Rollins. Admittedly, if either of those companies asked me to hawk their products, I would too. This day job stuff ain’t really my bag but it pays the bills and allows me to travel some and buy guitars when I want.

i’m not gonna post any opinions here (in deference to seth), except to say that journalistic principles demand a certain amount of responsibility to retain one’s credibility… i’m looking at you here, seth.

Well, Henry Rollins is full of commercially-motivated contradictions. For instance, a guy sings a song ridiculing television viewing back in the eighties, and now he’s got his own tv show and runs around encouraging people to watch it. Hanks Hard Lemonade does not surprise me one single bit. That’s why I posted this copy of the flyer.
