poolTomorrow (Wednesday) we’ve got another important opportunity to lobby the city to include skateboarding terrain in its planning process for future public parks. It’s meetings like this that got the money assigned to build the forthcoming skatepark that’s going in at House Park in Central Austin. You need not stand up and speak at the meeting to get your thoughts counted. You can fill out forms at the meeting to be heard. The more people that attend this meeting, the better likelihood skateboarding will get improved priority compared to the team sports like soccer and baseball that’ll likely be represented at the meeting. Below is a description of the meeting with time and location.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department has begun a process to revise their Long Range Plan. There will be a public meeting Wednesday, February 20, 6-8:30pm at Travis High cafeteria, 1211 E. Oltorf St. focused on East-side parks.

Attached is a flyer including a map of the target area to be discussed and full meeting details. Park advocates who live or recreate in East Austin should strongly consider attending this meeting to express their priorities for parks!

PARD has asked me to include the following information:
PARD has divided the city into 5 public meeting areas in order to have a manageable amount of public meetings and meet our fall deadline. The boundaries that have been set are strictly for this purpose only. It is important that each meeting stay focused within the respective public meeting boundary
The area to be covered includes all parks east of I35 and south of 290. Parks mentioned in relation to off-leash in this area include Bartholomew, Festival Beach, Guerrero, Rosewood, Mabel Davis, and Onion Creek. Please refer to the flyer for a full map.

Questions relating to this meeting should be directed to Ricardo Soliz, PARD Planning Division Manager, 974-6765.

A map to this empty swimming pool will be given out to any skaters that show up at this meeting.
